Oncology

Cancer is no longer a dreadful word. It is a potentially curable disease today, if diagnosed at an early stage. When the cure is not possible, the patient can be treated to have a good quality of life. Early detection, correct diagnosis and a correct treatment plan is the key for successful treatment.

The Oncology Department at the Lebanese Hospital Geitaoui-UMC provides a service to more than 2,000 patients each year, from all over Lebanon. We also receive referrals from across the Middle East region.

Our renowned cancer experts provide care for patients with most types of cancers, including cancers of the lung, colon and rectum, breast, pancreas, stomach, esophagus, prostate, bladder and head and neck, as well as melanoma, leukemia, lymphoma and multiple and uveal myeloma.

Our team has expertise in the use of all of the common types of treatments and most of the more specialist ones, including:

  • Cytotoxic chemotherapy
  • Immunotherapy
  • Monoclonal antibodies

Surgery is a critical component of cancer care. Cancer treatment most often cannot begin unless a surgical biopsy has been performed to confirm the diagnosis. Some patients can be cured with a surgical procedure alone, but most require surgery in combination with either chemotherapy, radiation therapy, or both.
