Dialysis

The Dialysis Unit at the Lebanese Hospital Geitaoui-UMC is the first dialysis unit in Lebanon and was opened in 1969.

Our staff provide care for patients with kidney failure at the stage of replacement therapy (hemodialysis, peritoneal dialysis).
The unit operates 12 hours / 24 and 6 days / 7 with a night guard system.

Currently, it has a capacity of 12 chairs that will be extended to 19 chairs by March 2017, when the unit will move to a new location with the latest equipment, technology and infrastructure.

The Dialysis Unit is a specialized department, which deals with chronic patients who come back three times a week for treatment sessions lasting from 3 to 4 hours.
Therefore, group dynamics tend to develop between these accustomed patients and the healthcare team.

Our care is aimed both at improving the psychological health and the physical health of the patients, with the objective to accompany them to a possible transplant.

Our interventions are carried out at three levels:

• Providing physical care with renal treatment by hemodialysis or peritoneal dialysis
• Providing psychological support by welcoming, listening, supporting and encouraging.
• Ensuring the patient's and the family’s educational needs are met, regarding the healthy lifestyle to follow to live with chronic renal failure.
